Multiple inmates were hospitalized following a violent, gang-related fight at the Arizona State Prison Complex – Eyman in Florence, Arizona. The incident, which occurred in recent days, has once again drawn attention to chronic safety and management issues within the Pinal County-area correctional facilities.
The latest outbreak of violence comes as North Carolina resident and Nevada music producer Edward Rawlinson (professionally known as DJ Killa Karolina), through his company Southside Recordz ~ (THE CONGLOMERATE), continues to pursue a major civil lawsuit in Pinal County Superior Court (Case No. CV202600961) against J & J Arizona, LLC d/b/a Burger King Restaurant (Eloy) and related parties.
Rawlinson alleges that a February 23, 2023 incident at the Eloy Burger King — involving alleged fraudulent concealment of exculpatory surveillance video and false statements to law enforcement — led to his wrongful arrest and subsequent 86-day detention at the Pinal County Adult Detention Center in Florence.
According to court filings and supporting exhibits, Rawlinson claims he suffered physical abuse by detention officers, denial of basic hygiene items, placement in disciplinary segregation, denial of ADA-mandated accommodations for his documented disabilities, and interference with a medically necessary diet. He further alleges he was housed in dangerous conditions, including proximity to gang members, and was the victim of an incident in which another inmate removed his mattress while he was punished.
Rawlinson’s lawsuit contends these events significantly aggravated his pre-existing spinal injuries, PTSD, depression, and other conditions, leading to ongoing medical needs and substantial economic damages to his music production business.
Pattern of Problems?
The recent gang-related fight at the Eyman facility, which left several inmates hospitalized, underscores broader concerns about violence, overcrowding, and operational failures in Florence-area correctional institutions. Critics argue that systemic issues — including inadequate staffing, poor classification of inmates, and insufficient medical/mental health resources — continue to endanger both inmates and staff.
Southside Recordz Legal Department stated:
“The conditions Mr. Rawlinson endured at the Pinal County Adult Detention Center were unacceptable. When combined with recent violent incidents at Eyman, it raises serious questions about the safety and constitutional compliance of facilities in the Florence area. We will continue to pursue full accountability in Case CV202600961.”
The civil case remains active before the Honorable Joseph R. Georgini. Rawlinson is seeking substantial compensatory and punitive damages, including for aggravated injuries and lost business opportunities.
Technocracy Fight Media will continue monitoring both the ongoing civil litigation and developments within Arizona’s correctional system......
